Set up a tournament
Create the event, describe its stages and lobbies, and connect the channels and roles it will use.
Start with /create event and choose Tournament (see Getting started). The rest of setup can be done in Discord or on the web. Both edit the same event.
The Discord dashboard shows a Setup still needed list. On the web it is on the Overview tab. Work through it until it is empty, then open registration.
1. Tournament settings
- Name
- Shown on the dashboard and used to name the scoring workbook.
- Number of stages
- For example 3 for Group stage, Semifinals and Finals. You can rename each stage later.
- Event admin roles
- Up to three roles whose members can manage this tournament. The server owner and Administrators always can.
- Dashboard channel
- Where the pinned control message lives. You can move it later.
In Discord
Open the pinned dashboard, choose Configure… → Tournament, and use the edit buttons.
Lost the dashboard message? Run /event dashboard. It gives you a link, or posts and pins a new one if the old one is gone.
On the web dashboard
Open the Tournament tab and edit the name, stages and admin roles, then save.
2. Stages and lobbies
A stage is a phase of the event. Only one stage is live at a time. A lobby is a room in that stage with a fixed number of seats.
- Per stage
- Name, number of lobbies, lobby size (teams per lobby), the first slot number on the slot list, and an optional stage role.
- Per lobby
- A lobby role (given to managers seated there) and a slot-list channel where the slot list and confirmation message post.
- Roster edits
- Optional, per stage. See Match day.
In Discord
Configure… → Stages. Pick a stage and edit it, then open each lobby to set its role and channel. The bot writes the slot-list message when you save a lobby.
On the web dashboard
Open Stages. Settings has the stage fields. Lobbies has one tab per lobby for its role and channel. Stages that are not live yet show a note that their settings apply when the event reaches them.
Lowering the number of stages, or the lobby size, later can remove teams from their seats. Your plan also caps stages, lobbies and lobby size. See Plans and credits.
3. Channels, times and messages
Registration needs a registration channel and an approval channel before it can open. Windows, roster rules and messages are covered on the next page: Registration and seating.
4. The scoring workbook
A Google Sheets workbook is claimed for the tournament when you create it. It gets a tab for each stage lobby. If the claim failed, nothing is lost: press Create sheet later.
In Discord
Configure… → Scoring. Press Open sheet if one exists, or Create sheet if not.
On the web dashboard
The Auto Score tab says whether a workbook is linked. If there is none, create it from Discord or ask in the support server.
More in Scoring sheets.
Before you open registration
- Every stage has a name, lobby count and lobby size.
- Every lobby you will use has a role and a slot-list channel.
- Registration and approval channels are set.
- The bot's role is above all the roles it will assign.
